| The CRI unit of Salem Diocese celebrated the CATECHESIS FIESTA as an activity of the Year of Catechesis on 21 & 22 January 2012 at Epiphany Centre. Bishop S. Singaroyan inaugurated this mega event and invited the participants to “learn to live as Christians through Catechesis”. event in a an excellent way. A creative and thought provoking exhibition on the theme of “Catechesis for all” was held for two days on 21 & 22 January. | dynamism, the students of various schools and formees of various Religious Formation Houses, came out with meaningful and colorful programmes, each bringing out forcefully various aspects of gospel message and their relevance for daily life with variety dances, dramas, skits, mimes, power point presentations and video film clips. Over 5000 children participated and benefitted the programems and exhibition on the first day and more than 4000 students and parents were catechized with the events on the second day. Rev. Fr. A. Belevendiram, our Vicar General, appreciated and thanked the Salem CRI members for their efforts in the Year of Catechesis. Congrats to all who participated and cooperated. |

| The Catechetical commission is going to conduct Catechism Exam for standards III to IX and XI in all the Catholic Institutions on February 18th 2012. I request you to get the question papers from the Manager’s Office, Mary Palace, Salem on 17.02.2012. Please evaluate the answer papers for yourselves and send to our office only of those who obtained first and second ranks in each Class on or before 25.02.2012. There will be a common exam for such students at the diocesan level in the Vicariate Centres on 11.03.2012 (Sunday). Exam centers will be made known to you later. Please prepare the children well for these Catechism Exams. |

| Suramangalam Parish: On 8th January 2012 All the Anbiams together celebrated Anbiam Day at Parish Level. They had the celebration of the Holy Eucharist followed by Anbiam Cultural Programme and Anbiam fellowship Meal. |

| Koneripatty Parish: On 14th January 2012 Koneripatti Parish celebrated Anbiam Day. That day began with the Eucharist celebration presisded over by the Director. All the Anbiams put up a programme in which they brought out the importance of the BCC. |

| Epiphany Feast: On 08.01.12 we celebrated the feast of Epiphany in a creative way. We have arranged a meaningful symposium on “New Media & Evangelization” discussing on how we can make use of Facebook & YouTube for our evangelization. More than 400 people participated in it. It was an eye-opener to many people to log into new media to evangelize. The discussion was followed by Feast Mass which was celebrated by the Bishop of Salem. After the mass, we had a tiny cultural programme and reporting. Bishop distributed feast gifts to all the members of the Epiphany Ministries which includes 6 commissions. Hereby I take this opportunity to thank all Parish Priests, Fathers, Brothers, Sisters & Lay faithful for extending helping hands and co-operation for the steps taken by Epiphany Pastoral Centre in the whole year 2011. | Youth Mass At Tanjore Cathedral: On 30.12.11 Fr. Director was requested to celebrate mass for the Youth of the Cathedral Parish of Tanjore along with people too. There were more than 120 youth actively participated and the mass was celebrated with some of audio-visual programmes. “We joyfully participated the mass with its real meaning today”, the youth said. After the mass, we had a discussion too. |

| Seminar To NSS Students In CSI Polytechnic: On 12.01.12 on behalf of 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Tamilnadu level inter polytechnic NSS Seminar was organized in CSI Polytechnic College and Fr. Director was the Chief Guest of the programme. The inaugural motivation talk was given by me. Around 200 students were there. The topic of talk was “Let Me..”. It was appreciated and welcomed by all. |

| Youth Spiritual Pongal Programme: The Youth Commission joined with Charismatic Renewal Commission and arranged 2 days Spiritual Renewal Programme for the youth on 15, 16.01.12 at St. Xavier’s Minor Seminary. 51 youth from 13 parishes participated in it. At the end they shared that these kinds of programme should be continued and all the youth should try to participate if at all they need new life in Christ. I thank the Charismatic team. |

| Seminar on “Community Life” to Sisters at Kerela: On 27.12.11 Fr. Director conducted seminar on “Community Life – The godly life” to the Passionate Sisters Congregation at Ernakulam. It enkindled them to refine their community spirit. |

Planning Meeting for Lent at Chennai: On 6.1.12 all the Communication Directors joined at Santhome in order to pl an for the lent season programmes through satellite television. Salem diocese was appreciated for its production of Christmas video song “Nanbane”. Now we are given in charge to produce Talk Shows on 7 Topics for Lent in collaboration with neighbouring dioceses such as Dharmapuri, Kovai & Ooty.
Seminar to Prisoners: On 11.01.12 Fr. Director was called to give motivation talk to the inmates of Salem Central Prison. Around 100 members participated and they were given some training for their self confidence. The Superindent and the prisoners were happy about it and they requested to continue this programme twice in a month regularly. I thank Sr. Joyce for giving this life saving opportunity. |

| Free Film Shows: In this year of Catechesis, the Communication Commission is ready to screen films in the parishes freely. It was announced in the recollection two months earlier. The following parishes made use of this free scheme: R.C.Settipati, Sithalandur, Perunkurichi substations & Idapaddi. |

| Helping Hands with Epiphany Equipments: The epiphany audio and lighting system was given to Sound & Light Programme of Savariarpalaym parish. My hearty appreciation to Fr. Joseph Lazar for his evangelical effort. Similarly, we helped the Catechesis Fiesta Programme, which was arranged by CRI-Salem, by providing hall, audio-lighting systems, etc. |

| Full Night Prayer at Mettur Dam & Johnsonpet: On 17.12.11 Fr. Director with Diocesan Charismatic Team were invited to conduct Full Night Prayer as a preparation for the Birth of Christ in Mettur Dam Parish. More than 100 people participated in it. Fr. Masilamani, Parish Priest celebrated the Mass at the end and gave blessing to all. I thank father for his invitation and also thanks to Fr. Maria Joseph, Asst. Parish Priest for he arranged everything to make the night prayerful. God showered His blessings to all the participants and they were all happy about it. On 14.01.12 the full night prayer was conducted at Johnsonpet for the mongh of January. Fr. Gopi Emmanuel gave message and Fr. Director led the adoration, group prayer and Mass. Around 200 people participated. I appreciate the people and children who come from Agraharam regularly to all the night prayers wherever we conduct it. We thank Fr. Belevendiram VG & Parish Priest and Bro. Asirvatham who arranged everything well. |

| Charismatic Preaching at Chennai: On 20.12.11 Fr. Director was called to lead Charismatic Prayer Meeting at Kamarajapuram, Chennai. It was the preparation for the Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. More than 200 people participated in it. |

Director was given opportunity to conduct Charismatic Mass with Healing Adoration Prayer Service at Cathedral as the preparation of its feast. | LSS to Seminarians: The diocesan charismatic team conducted last year Life in Spirit Seminar to the Seminarians and they got new experience and this year also they were interested in it. Hence, We arranged 3 days LSS programme from 15th to 17th January 2012 for the Seminarians who are in St. Xavier’s Minor Seminary & MSFS Formation House. 27 Brothers participated actively and renewed their Charismatic Spirit with the Lord. It was conducted at Dr. Shamboo’s Thottam with the help of Fr. Pannerselvam. The Diocesan Service Team conducted it. I thank the Rectors, Fr. Pannerselvam, Mr. Stephen Bernard, Jeyaprakash, Benedict, Arone & Team. |

| X’mas Message in Ramakrishna Ashram: On 24th December night Swami Vivekananda spoke about Jesus the great leader and the Ramakrishna Ashram was started at that night. Hence, they every year celebrate this function. Fr. Director was invited to narrate the “Nativity of Jesus Christ” as last year and I gave talk to them. They were listening well and convinced of some of the happenings during the nativity. |

CRS – Pudhu Vazhvu Project – Phase IV: Last month 11 youth trainings, 10 street corner meetings and 4 Mass awareness camps were organized in 11 Srilankan Refugee Camps. Construction of 65 houses for refugee people at Nakiampatti is at finishing stage. The inauguration of 65 houses will be on 31th January by Rt. Rev. Bishop Dr. S. Singarayon.
Two days Male Advocates Training conducted by CRS was held at CEEMA, Erode. The coordinator M. Arulanantham and four volunteers participated in this training. |

| CHAI: In the month of January 2012, TB awareness programmes were conducted at SSSS Hall on 06/01/2012; Koodamalai on 11/01/2012 and Naduvalur on 19/01/2012. A total of 145 people participated in these programmes. The participants were SHGs and CBOs members and general public. Ms. Roseline AJ and Mr. Antony, STS St. Mary’s Hospital TB unit were the resource persons. Awareness on TB/HIV co-infection disease also was given during these trainings. The participants appreciated the programme and found it very useful and informative. Through our referral and regular follow up one TB patient adhered to treatment for 6 months and got cured of TB. |

| IDEA: Awareness seminar on HIV/AIDS & Female Foeticide and Trade specific training for entrepreneur were conducted by Coordinator M. Arulanantham at Iddapaddi and Namagiripet Blocks. Successful Entrepreneurial practices have been documented. Trade orientation seminar for entrepreneurs and Training on Accounts and Finance Management for SHGs were conducted at Omalur Block level. |

| KOLPING: The KOLPING monitoring team visited Attur, Gengavalli, Koneripatti and Sendharapatti Kolping groups and monitored their activities. The team suggested ways to avail and benefit government welfare schemes. Steps were taken in various Kolping groups to avail the schemes and as a result 9 persons got OAP, 5 persons got Ration Cards and 10 members were helped to get Farmers Security Card. |

| MAHALIR THITTAM: Fr. Selvam Francis Xavier, director, SSSS took part in the meeting called by the District Collector and explained about MT project. Animators Representative training was conducted for SHGs from Attur, Salem, Gengavalli unions. From SSSS 120 SHG members participate and benefitted from the trainings. SHG members took part in the cultural competitions conducted by Mahalir Thittam Office and 20 members own various prizes. |

| NEW THRUST: Neelakuil Self Help Group, Attur block and Annai Teresa SHG from Rasipuram Rs. 4 lakhs and Rs. 5 Lakhs respectively as direct loan. Vasantham, Maina and Siva Sakthi SHGs from Rasipurm were helped to get bank loan of Rs. 60, 000/-each as revolving fund. |

Malar, Roja and Vairam SHGs from Pettai and Maga Sakthi and Jeyam SHGs from Vennandhur were helped to get Rs. 60,000/- each as revolving Fund. The members have utilized the amount to start Foot wear shop, Tiffin Centre, Grocery shop and Petty shop. Some of the members have invested the money into farming and goat rearing.
Seven persons from Star and Malargal SHG from (Salem), Sirumalar SHG, P.N.Palayam and Kanaga Durga SHG from Attur benefitted from the Old Age Pension scheme getting Rs. 1000/- each. |

| Through Semparuthi and Malligai SHGs 21 families have been helped to get land PATTA. Rasipuram CBO helped to 5 Differently abled persons to get Rs. 1000/- each for starting small businesses. |

| Santhiya and Kalai Selvi from Kurinji SHG, Thalaivasal block, Santhi from Indhu Nadhi SHG, Divya Barati from Malar SHG, Ambika, Nithya and Cinnapappa from P.N. Palayam and Pushpa from Surya Gandhi SHG were helped to get Rs. 25,000/- and half a Savaran Gold each Tamil NADU Government Marriage Assistance scheme. |

| Two new SHGs have been formed at Vennandhur. Gundumalli SHG members joined hands with the local Panchayat to clean up the drainage in their area. |

| UNICEF: Training on Parenting Practices was organized for 42 Field Contacts and 10 coordinators at SSSS Training Hall on 06th Jan.2012. Rev. Fr. Selvam Francis Xavier, Director of Salem Social Service Society, welcomed the participants and he elaborated on the need for better parenting practices in the families. And he appreciated the efforts by for having sanctioned to conduct the training. He also exhorted the participants to utilize the opportunity provided by UNICEF as well as BMRF to maximum extent possible. The following Objectives were earmarked for the training: |
- To improve the knowledge and skills of coordinators and Field Contacts in positive parenting practices.
- To create awareness on the need for instructional delivery and the risk factors during pregnancy.
- To disseminate knowledge on the basic maternal and child care, child development stages.
- To educate the participants on the importance of breast feeding. And also awareness on Anemia prevention, Stages of child development, Role of parents in child development and Importance of Breast feeding through 12 IEC Event were conducted in different villages at Gangavalli block in which 600 people have benefited the target people is pregnant women, children, SHG members, PRI members and Adolescence.
